This summer has been an amazing time or recharging, relaxing, and learning! After 16 weeks of acute morning sickness I needed to recuperate and catch up on life. I never like my photography “muscle” to go unused for long periods of time so I decided to participate in a 2-week mentoring program with my friend and fellow photographer Jamie Current.
She took my engagement pictures almost 7 years ago and was the catalyst that started me on my photography journey! I’ve always loved her photo journalistic work as she captures everyday life with her two littles, so I set out to glean as much information as possible from her via a Skype session (she lives in Illinois) and her constructive criticism of my lifestyle images via her private Facebook group. I am thrilled with the results!
Nailing the basics like exposure, focus, and composition is important, but even a textbook shot can lack that “wow” factor if the image doesn’t tell a story or evoke some kind of emotion in the viewer. That said, Jamie caters to all level of photographers from amateur “mom-togs” to professionals and everything in between, so contact her if you would like to mentor with her.
